Gigs
in Newry (GIN)
Over the
last few years there has been a considerable increase in the
amount of young bands springing up in the Newry and Mourne area.
As a result of three local men have set up a promotions company
with the aim of giving this huge amount of talent a platform
upon which to perform as well as bringing established acts to
the area.
That collective is known as GIN (Gigs in Newry) Promotions and,
having set up just over six months ago, are well on their way
to giving music fans from this part of the country the opportunity
to experience original live bands right on their doorstep.GIN,
made up of Gavan Quigley, John Torley, and Micheal McEvoy, has
already put on two top notch tribute acts in the shape of the
Complete Stone Roses and Smiths’ cover band, These Charming
Men.
They will soon be taking the next step with acclaimed jazz group
The James Taylor Quartet, coming to the area. The gig was due
to be in Warrenpoint Town Hall on Saturday, but the show has
been postponed until a later date. Despite the plethora of local
bands playing gigs in the Newry and Mourne area, there still
seems to be sections of the population that aren’t willing
to take the chance of seeing an original band right on their
doorstep. With Newry now firmly established as a growing city,
GIN feels that the time is right for music lovers to come forward
and support people like GIN Promotions.
